Slow Internet Connection (August 12, 2009)
A slow internet connection was felt early morning of August 12, 2009 here in the Philippines, with a very slow download speeds and crawling browsers which was cause by a serious undersea cable network fault which happened between taiwan and china.
The slow internet access was cause by the disruption of a segment of the Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 or the APCN2 cable which connects Shantou China and Hongkong. The ACPN2 cable is owned by 26 telecom operators from 14 different countries which links the Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Hong kong.
And now that its damaged, the traffic which it handles were rerouted onto other undersea cables that causes a slower internet access for some users across southeast asia, including the Filipino users. The main cause of the cable fault was not immediately known as it can be a technical failure or a cut cable, there were also no earthquakes recorded in the time of the incident.
